Seoul to Busan is Korea’s flagship train route — the length of the country in about two and a half hours. Here’s everything you need to ride it smoothly.
The basics
- Journey time: ~2 hours 30 minutes by KTX (non-stop services are fastest).
- Departs from: Seoul Station (some services from Yongsan).
- Arrives at: Busan Station, right in the city.
- Frequency: very frequent throughout the day.
How to book
You can book individual KTX tickets, or — if Busan is part of a longer trip — use a Korail Pass for unlimited rides. If you’re only doing this one round trip, individual tickets are usually the cheaper choice.
Booking with a foreign card can fail silently on the app; see our booking guide for the fixes (desktop Korail global site, station counters, or a pass).
Tips for the ride
- Reserve a seat on busy days and holidays — popular departures sell out.
- Sit on the correct side for views, and bring a snack (or buy onboard).
- Trains are punctual; arrive a few minutes early to find your car.
When you arrive in Busan
Busan Station puts you minutes from the city’s highlights. See our guide to Things to Do Near Busan Station — Gamcheon Culture Village, Jagalchi fish market, and Haeundae Beach are all within easy reach.
